Los Angeles Times On Ghostbusters Still Saving The World At 30

The Los Angeles Times wrote about Ghostbusters,™ speaking with Ivan Reitman and Ernie Hudson as Ghostbusters celebrates its 30th Anniversary.

Excerpt from Ivan Reitman:

There was very little expectation of the movie by all prognosticators, there were prognosticators in 1984, even though there are far less than there are now,” he said, laughing. “It was one of those movies that was pretty low on the focus list.”

Excerpt from Ernie Hudson:

I was doing a play on Broadway six or seven years ago, and guys would put on their Ghostbusters suits with their backpacks and traipse across New York and wait outside the stage. I was in the South of France, and there were Ghostbusters chapters all through France and Italy.

Chapters? Are we not a global corporation? 😉

Ivan Reitman’s Restaurant To Offer Marshmallow Inspired Dessert

unistaypufthead

Ivan Reitman is expanding his cinema horizons with a new restaurant in the Toronto area. What would a restaurant be without desserts? When you’re associated with Ghostbusters and have your own restaurant, wisely one of those desserts is going to be based off Ghostbusters. Of course more specifically something made from or with marshmallows, Stay-Puft Marshmallows!

Here’s what Ivan Reitman had to say about it.

“We haven’t perfected it yet, but it’s going to be some kind of exploding marshmallow thing.”

Ghostbusters Commercial Alternate Takes

rayfilmingcomwithjanine

One of the most famous commercials in movie history comes from Ghostbusters. Without it, we wouldn’t have seen the power of advertising. Conveniently a TV that was mysteriously left on for Dana (foreshadowing) let her know who to call (and with no address or obvious map) how to get to this new GHOSTBUSTERS business.

Before their can be a movie based on real events or a commercial, it has to be filmed. Sure my employers had a real commercial, it would have looked a little out of place with the rest of Ghostbusters being those comedic actors.

Also because Columbia Pictures hadn’t worked out the movie rights for the name GHØSTBUSTERS from those other fictional guys and a deal hadn’t been finalized with the Ghostbusters, all those involved with filming Ghostbusters filmed alternate takes with different “business” names. Ya know, just in case and it wouldn’t need to be re-filmed (which might not have been as great) in post production.

Ivan Reitman Provides More Insight On Ghostbusters III

ivanreitmanarmsbehindnback

In America (and probably elsewhere) its April Fools Day. A day that originally came about because newspaper delivery and social media didn’t exist. Neither did computers come to think of it. A lot of people in 1582 (402 years before Ghostbusters was completed and in theaters!) didn’t know their governments and faith dictated New Years was now and forever to be 4 months earlier. Somehow people who didn’t know this ended up as part of a practical joke.

Four Hundred and Thirty Two Years later I’m writing a post with new insights about Ghostbusters III. This isn’t an April Fool’s joke.

Fred Topel from CraveOnline interviewed Ivan Reitman. Any interview with someone involved with Ghostbusters is always asked about a third Ghostbusters movie. It was short, not pointless. See what I did their?

On 3D and film title?

Certainly there’s been a lot of talk about doing Ghostbusters 3 in 3D as well, and I don’t think we’ll call it Ghostbusters 3 either.

If the story is more important then the effects (something Bill Murray felt let Ghostbusters II down) and it makes sense for say a confinement stream to be 3D, I’m ok with it. Hopefully we won’t need the glasses.

Since ghostheads and everyone else have been calling Ghostbusters III, Ghostbusters III or 3 since President Bush was in office, this movie has been in “pre production” since another Bush was in office, it would be very smart for Ghostbusters III to be called something else. Along the lines of what Star Trek or The Terminator franchises have and are doing.

Ivan Reitman On Recent Ghostbusters III Developments

ivanreitmanarmsbehindnback

I’ve been waiting for Ghostbusters III to be made since 1990. I’ll let that sink in for a moment. True, I didn’t know generally movies aren’t usually fast tracked (its in an industry term) just like that. My 12 year old self thought about it, figured out the necessary logistics (even though I didn’t know that word yet) and crunched the really easy numbers. The conversation with myself went something like this:

If it took Ghostbusters II 5 years to get made, then Ghostbusters III will be made by 1995.

Going around in circles about why it was taking so long (in the pre internet days) about why the “easiest” movie to be made wasn’t could get frustrating. I’m less then a month away from boarding a train (what train, what are you talking about?) to leave 35 behind. I still remember walking home from school in the early 1990s thinking and feeling “Ghostbusters III.”

As much as I’ve talked about Ghostbusters III on and off-line, regardless of the countless rumors, tidbits, actual news, cheerleading, and the same quotes from Harold, Dan, Ivan, Ernie, (whose always the last to know) and on the rare occasion Bill I’ve taken a “wait and see; and believe it when it actually happens” approach.
